And here’s a closer look, in isolation and from below, of a flower of the Canada lily, Lilium canadense, that I encountered at Bartholomew’s Cobble on June 29.

They certainly come in a variety of colors. I like the way some of the blooms can hang down, like temple bells.

The website of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center describes the flowers of this species as pendulous. That posture prompted me to get underneath one of the flowers and aim upward, as you see here. (This species aside, I’m often tempted to aim my camera at odd angles.)

After seeing this view, it’s confirmed, I prefer the native species much better. They are both pretty, but this one is just stunning. I’ve yet to find these, so my quest continues. According to the USDA map they should be around here. Fantastic shot Steve!!!

Perhaps a local chapter of a native plant society can point you to some of these lilies in the wild, or maybe a nursery specializing in native plants can sell you one.
