Guest Post 6: in the forest

June 29 proved to be just as hot in southwestern Massachusetts as it was in central Texas, and even walking along a path through the woods at the nature preserve called Bartholomew’s Cobble offered relief only from the sun, but not from the heat or from annoying insects. At the spot shown here I was intrigued by the combination of ferns, mosses, lichens, and rocks, all offset by the brown of dried vegetation on the forest floor.
