Tiny beetle
You’ve seen various pictures this year (including yesterday) of the wildflower called firewheel or Indian blanket, Gaillardia pulchella. Here for the first time is a different species in the genus, Gaillardia suavis, whose rays typically fall off quickly and leave only a central globe that has given the flower the colloquial name pincushion daisy. As you can see, I wasn’t its only visitor on March 25 in north-central Austin.
For those of you who are interested in photography as a craft, points 1, 2, 5 and especially 20 in About My Techniques are relevant to this photograph.
