Soft clouds
I remember sitting outdoors in the spring of 1968 watching clouds move above the mountain town of La Esperanza in Honduras while I listened to a Brahms symphony on the short-wave radio. If any music accompanied the drifting of these clouds over my part of Austin on July 1st, I didn’t hear it.

Racial discrimination continues
The Department of Education has opened a civil rights investigation into a top-ranked North Carolina high school over alleged racial discrimination.
In a letter obtained exclusively by the Washington Examiner, the Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights confirmed an investigation had been opened into the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics.
Education advocacy organization Parents Defending Education filed a complaint with the OCR in May, alleging the school’s “Step Up to STEM” summer program discriminates on the basis of race by only seeking applications from black, Hispanic, and Native American students.
“Another day, another investigation into one of the nation’s most celebrated high schools,” PDE Vice President Caroline Moore told the Washington Examiner. “While we are grateful the Department of Education is taking our OCR complaint about North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics seriously, it remains troubling that one of the best high schools in the country unabashedly discriminates on the basis of race.”
So begins a June 26th article in The Washington Examiner. You’re welcome to read the full article.

I’ve never seen white cotton candy, but these certainly suggest it. Speaking of La Esperanza, we’re certainly hoping for a few clouds to serve as parasols this week.

Can’t say I’ve ever thought about white cotton candy, but it does exist. Esperanza is one name for Tecoma stans, a wildflower from west and far south Texas also known as yellow bells. Much planted around Austin, I’ve seen it flowering in various places this past week. It seems not to need a parasol to thrive.

I’m a sucker for clouds like these. I see from my archive that in four minutes I took 22 varied pictures of the clouds, of which the one shown here was the last.

So soft! One of my favorite day dreaming activities when I fly is to imagine I’m jumping from cloud to cloud below.

Brahms would be a splendid accompaniment to a sky like this. I’d pick a piano quartet.

That would work for me as well.
