Two-turtle Tuesday

The top turtle is easy to recognize as a red-eared slider, Trachemys scripta elegans. Whatever kind of turtle the second one is, it clearly didn’t heed the adage about a rolling stone. I photographed both turtles at Mills Pond in far north Austin on June 2nd.

Have you heard about the four siblings—ages 13, 9, 4, and 11 months—who survived for 40 days after a plane crash in the Amazon jungle and were finally rescued a few days ago? You can read accounts at CBS and at CNN and at the AP. It’s quite a survival story.
