That is beautiful! I would love to experience that firsthand!

It’s a long flight from South Africa but the wildflowers here would justify the trip.

Try saying those names quickly three times😁 I think I’d just silently admire them instead.

You can tell I’ve been at this a long time: I had no trouble saying those names quickly three times just now. Pyrrhopappus pauciflorus and Castilleja indivisa by any other names would look as pretty.

I grinned at your comment, since these are two of the first scientific names I was able to remember. The rhythm and rhyme of each pair probably helped.

Those two sure have rhythm to their names. Pyrrhopappus pauciflorus adds alliteration.

I hadn’t seen a single field of Texas dandelions until Saturday. I began running into them in West Columbia, and they were thick all the way over to Edna. It will be interesting to see if they begin showing up here now, since they’ve just completed a mowing of the various easements and such. There’s plenty of time for new ones to appear. There also were great swaths of paintbrush on Saturday. Yellow and red do make for a fine combination.

I looked up those towns on a map; it seems you stayed closer to the coast than we ever got on our 238-mile jaunt on Saturday. Our closest point to the coast was Floresville, where the main cemetery had wildflowers but wasn’t up to par; one of the other Floresville cemeteries was also subpar, and the third one had been completely mowed.
Paintbrushes were all over the place in the areas we drove through. Didn’t see a lot of dandelions on Saturday; this picture of them is from much closer to home last week.
