New Zealand: Cathedral Cove cliff textures and colors

with 8 comments

A year ago today we visited Cathedral Cove on New Zealand’s Coromandel Peninsula. Have a look at some of the cliffs’ textures and colors.

  3. Taken together, the colors on these rocks remind me of one of my first art projects: painting pieces of driveway gravel with watercolors, as a gift for my mother. Then again, the complementary stripes of color in the second could be a Navajo blanket, and the topaz and peridot in the first bring to mind those gemstones.

The contrasting textures in the third photo are especially interesting: part honeycomb, part smooth wave.
