New Zealand: Last morning in the country
On February 27th I got up early and walked the few blocks down to Little Manly Beach, where I photographed the sun rising over the Hauraki Gulf.

What an incomparable gift the world gave you on that last morning. I’ve never seen such a sunrise. I’m glad you did — it’s as beautiful and unique as the country itself.

In Austin I rarely make the effort to get up and go out early enough to appreciate a sunrise, but I’m sure glad I did on my last morning in New Zealand. It’s something I’ll never forget.

You make a good point: the image is vertical but it’s made up of many horizontal layers of varying texture and color. I’m happy to have taken the picture.

Have thoroughly enjoyed your NZ travel series as it has brought back many pleasant memories. Spent several weeks there many years ago, and my host lived about 20 minutes from the beach at Mount Maunganui.
New Zealand has a magic all its own—–thank you for recasting the spell.

I never took a course on spellcasting, but from what you’ve said I’m doing a good job in the spells department anyway.
Given that your New Zealand trip was many years ago, maybe these pictures will prompt you to go back for a second visit.

Really nice sunrise. I was up early taking photos of our sunrise this morning. A sign of bad weather – we are expecting some snow around us today. It is cold enough

I hardly ever photograph sunrises in Texas, so this was a great chance to get a picture of one. It wouldn’t have been fun in winter.

A fine and fitting farewell. It’s magic to be on a beach at sunrise, and it’s a long time since I had (or, rather, made) the chance. Must rectify that soon!

You’re in the land of great beaches, but the dead of winter isn’t the most comfortable time to watch a sunrise on one. Nebraska’s a lot warmer now, but the last time it had a seacoast was geological ages ago.
