Blue Curls Buds Beginning to Open 7860

From February 9, 2012, at the intersection of York Blvd. and Stonelake Blvd., here are some blue curls buds, Phacelia congesta, beginning to open. If you’d like to see what the flowers look like when they emerge, you can check out a post from a week later.

  1. Perfect in its simplicity.

  2. Both images show how the blue curls got their name. Nice dark background shows off the stem quite well.

    • An alternate colloquial name for this wildflower is caterpillars.

This is yet another instance in which the very dark background is natural.

    • We had an early spring in 2012, as this photo and the linked one attest, but I don’t think 2015 is that far along (I don’t actually know, being away.)

  7. Stunning detail and shapes 🙂

  8. Very, very pretty. Nice pastels against the dark background. Well done indeed. I like this one even better than I like that of the emergent flowers.

  9. This is one of the loveliest you’ve shown. It seems so fresh: even flawless. The curl on the right is appealing, and a beautiful focal point.

  10. This and the post to which you link are particularly lovely. The name colloquial name “blue curls” is certainly apt.
