Decaying leaf with gall

Drying Leaf and Gall 6746

Once again from the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center on February 3, 2013, here’s a small and decaying leaf with what appears to be a gall in its stalk. If you change the scale, you can imagine a beet or a turnip.

  1. I wonder if there is anyone home in that gall. I don’t really know if they are just a summer host or if sometimes they are used for overwintering.
