Perspectives on Nature Photography
The green in the title refers to the buds of Viguiera dentata, a shrub in the sunflower family that’s called goldeneye, some yellow flower heads of which light up the background of this photograph.
I took this picture on October 10th along Loop 360 in southwest Austin.

This is a fine bud and bloom composition, Steve. The flowers offer so much warmth to the coolness of the buds.

I like your alliteration in “bud and bloom.” Maybe someone will open the Bud and Bloom Bed and Breakfast.

I can’t remember another of your photos where I felt so close to the subject. Looking at this, I feel like I’m the one about two inches away from it. I can’t quite figure out what makes it seem to “pop” so, but I do think the gaps in the yellow petals behind it help. They give more depth to the photo than a solid yellow background would. Just lovely!

It’s interesting how the curves at the periphery and their intimation of delineation (what a phrase) rather than a uniformity of yellow in the background make you feel closer to the buds than you might otherwise feel. Let’s call it the framing effect.

The detail is stunning…Love the deft artistic touch to the image.
