An irregular geometry in blue, tan, and brown
At a pond a couple of miles south of the one in northeast Austin that brought you the last four pictures, I photographed these dry stalks on August 12th. When Texas goes through its frequent spells without rain, ponds shrink or dry up altogether and plants begin growing in damp ground that had recently been under water. Eventually we get some rain, the ponds come back up, and the plants that had taken hold there drown. That’s what you see in this photograph. I’m afraid there’s not enough evidence—or I’m not adept enough—to tell what kind of plants these were.
