25 years, 25 pictures
Today being Eve’s and my 25th wedding anniversary, I thought I’d regale you, visually, with a look back at 25 pictures from the 14 months (a simultaneous “monthiversary”) of this nature photography blog. Only a very few of you have seen all these images, so there’ll be something new for almost everyone.
Usually I arrange things so that clicking on a picture brings up a larger and clearer view, but if you click on one of the thumbnails below you’ll be taken back to the original post so you can read about what you’re seeing if you choose to do so; once there, you can still click for a sharper and usually larger image.
Happy viewing. New pictures will resume tomorrow.

Happy anniversary! And what a wonderful selection to celebrate the occasion. It tickled me to see so many of my own favorites again, including that cute little glob of greedy green at the end. Nice of you to provide links to the original posts. I’m off to read about the ones I’ve not seen before.

Thanks, Linda. In choosing the pictures, I was reminded of your reaction to some of them. I like your phrasing in “that cute little glob of greedy green.”

Not only were there wonderful new images to enjoy, I found something new (to me) in your comments – your mention that you often think of your photography as portraiture. As soon as I read that, it seemed quite obvious. My goodness – you even tell us that in the title of your blog, and I’ve glanced over that for months without giving it a thought. Silly me!

I often say “Silly me!” to myself as well. Half an hour ago I was looking at a French blog that talked about and showed a photograph of Montaigu, which translates into English as ‘sharp mountain.’ Suddenly it dawned on me that that must be the origin of the name Montague, as in the family that Romeo belonged to and Juliet didn’t. Why had I never realized that before?
In any case, yes, I do often think of my photographs of plants as portraits. I’m pleased that you enjoyed some of the ones you hadn’t seen till now.

Wow, 25 years!! That is very impressive nowadays and you should be very proud of yourselves :). Hope your anniversary is fantastic! Are you taking your wife out to celebrate? Now regarding the photos, they are absolutely spectacular and I think you should get them printed up as a photobook. It would be amazing and a wonderful memory from your 25th anniversary!!

Thanks, Cindy. We haven’t decided on the venue for celebration yet. As for the pictures, I’ve approached likely publishers about a book but haven’t had any success. I’m likely to go the route of electronic books, which circumvent the problem of expensive color reproduction.

I like the linear look, too. I’ve toyed with the idea of changing to a WordPress theme that has a gallery view built in, but I don’t know what unexpected problems that might trigger, so I’ve left well enough alone. Thanks for your good wishes, Sally.

Beautiful! I love waiting to see what you put up every day! I stopped in to ask if you’d mind taking a look at a post, the person that I know, is asking for a plant identification, seeing as that the marker on the plant, states care that kills it. I bet I’m going to feel like a goofball once I know what it is myself! Here is the link:
Name That Plant, please anyone… I thought that with the numbers of plants you photograph and speak about that you might have the correct response! 🙂

August 4, 2012 at 9:45 PM
Hi, Elisa. There are a lot of native species in central Texas, as you note seeing in this blog’s daily stream of pictures. Although I’d like to help identify your friend’s mystery plant, I’m afraid my knowledge is limited to what grows natively here. Sorry.

August 4, 2012 at 11:41 PM
oh, thanks! I thought of you because he too, lives in Texas and got the plant at a Home Depot type place.

I wish the chain nurseries (and even the local ones) carried more species native to the region they’re in.
