Metallic green meets magenta

I photographed this little sweat bee (yes, there is such a thing) on a Texas thistle at Tejas Camp in Williamson County on May 15, 2011. There’s a good chance this insect is Augochloropsis metallica. There’s also a good chance you’ll find this as appealing a combination of colors as the last one in these pages that included a Texas thistle.

I take a lot of pictures, and although I remember many of them I can’t remember them all. Only while browsing my archives some weeks ago did I rediscover this one, which I’m grateful my year-younger self had the good sense to take.

Posted a year ago on this date: patterns and textures different from those above, as seen on a sunflower stalk.

The daily posts that you’ve become accustomed to will continue while I’m away from Austin. Feel free to comment if you like, but please be aware that I may not be able to answer for a while.
